2017 FIL World Championships – Men’s Luge

From Igls, AUT

Throughout the FIL World Championships, the only Austrian who’s appeared to have a home track advantage has been Wolfgang Kindl. Much like in the sprint event, Kindl used his knowledge of the track in Austria to take gold.

Kindl came into the second heat just .004 ahead of Russian Roman Repilov. On the second run, Kindl’s lead expanded, but the margin of victory was only .062 ahead of Repilov.

Dominik Fischnaller of Italy finished third, ahead of German Johannes Ludwig. Semen Pavvlichenko finished fifth, ahead of the favorite coming into event, German Felix Loch.

It was a rough race for the United States, with Tucker West finishing 15th to lead the way for the Americans. Taylor Morris, Jonathan Gustafson, and Chris Mazdzer finished 17th through 19th, respectively.

Mitchel Malyk was the only Canadian to make it to the second run, finishing in 25h. Teammates Reid Watts finished 26th and 28th.

Asian champion Shiva Keshavan finished 35th.
