From Whistler, CAN

(Nov. 5, 2017) Grace Dafoe kicked off the 2017/2018 season with a fourth place finish in the opener in Whistler. In the second race, she struck gold.

The Canadian had the second-quickest run in both heats, and was rewarded for her consistency with a .04 second win over American Samantha Culiver.

Culiver recorded the fastest time of the second heat, moving up from third to second on her second run. Korean Jeonghyeok Lee finished third.

American Veronica Day finished fourth, while Asuka Noguchi of Japan finished fifth. Kristen Hurley recorded a career-best sixth place finish.

Race 1 winner Kelly Curtis came into the second run as the leader, having set the fastest run of the race. She ran into trouble midway down the tricky Whistler track and fell to seventh to round out the American effort. Melissa-Kate Gagnon finished eighth for Canada.
