USA’s Day Wins in Calgary

(Nov. 12, 2017) Veronica Day took her first gold medal of the 2017/2018 IBSF North American Cup season, continuing the United States domination of women’s skeleton in NAC action.

Day came into the second heat of the race .35 behind teammate Kelly Curtis. Day came back strong with the best run of the second heat by nearly a half second, taking the gold medal by .10 over Curtis.

Curtis finished second, making it the second USA 1-2 of the North American Cup women’s skeleton season. Japan’s Asuka Noguchi finished with a bronze medal.

Korea’s Jeonghyeok Lee finished fourth, while Grace Dafoe finished fifth on home ice after a disappointing first run left her in seventh after one run. China’s Xinwei Wu finished sixth.

Michelle Toukan and Kristen Hurley helped put all four American women in the top 10 with seventh and tenth, respectively. Melisasa-Kate Gagnon finished ninth for Canada, while Janelle Khan-Nielsen rounded out Canada’s effort in 13th.

Nigeria’s Simidele Adeagbo finished 14th.
