Curtis Clinches NAC Women’s Skeleton Championship

From Lake Placid, USA

(Jan. 11, 2018) Kelly Curtis came into the seventh race of the IBSF North American Cup controlling her own championship destiny, stay in the medals and the overall championship is hers. In the first of two races in Lake Placid Curtis did just that, winning  her second race of the season and extending her point lead in the process.

Curtis came into her second run in fourth place, behind Kristen Hurley, Simidele Adeagbo, and Michelle Toukan. She put the pressure on the leaders with the only sub-59 second run in the second heat. One by one the final three women came down, none able to match Curtis’ pace, with the American finishing the day in the gold medal position.

Hurley finished second, just .08 off Curtis’ time, while Simidele Adeagbo of Nigeria finished third.

Michelle Toukan, Melissa-Kate Gagnon, and Mystique Ro rounded out the top six, while Grace Dafoe finished seventh.

With her win, coupled with Grace Dafoe’s seventh place finish, Curtis has clinched the IBSF North American Cup title. After seven races she has two wins, and four medals over all, only once finishing outside of the top five.
