From Igls, AUT
(Jan. 18, 2018) Corie Mapp won his second race in as many events, this time taking gold in Igls.
The British slider came into the second heat .13 behind Latvian Alvils Brants. Mapp’s second run was the fastest of both heats, putting the pressure on Brants.
Brants looked to have the race in hand, quicker at every split on his second run until trouble at the bottom of the track dropped him out of the lead and back into second place as he crossed the line.
The final margin of victory was .08.
Swiss slider Christopher Stewart finished third, moving up from fourth into bronze. Behind him, Lonnie Bissonnette fell from third to fourth after a tough second run dropped him out of the medals.
Pier Alberto Buccoliero of Italy finished fifth, moving up from tenth in his second run in his first IBSF Para-Bobsled race. Hermann Ellmauer of Austria finished sixth.
