Baumgartner Wins 1st Career EC Gold

(Jan. 11, 2019) – Patrick Baumgartner won his first career IBSF European Cup gold medal as a pilot, edging out Rostislav Gaitiukevich and Jonas Jannusch to win gold in the second one-heat race of the day.

The Italian pilot was behind the co-silver medalists at most of the timing loops, but won out by .07 at the one that mattered to win his first gold (and third medal) of the 2018/2019 season.

Giatiukevich and Jannusch finished tied for second, beating out Richard Oelsner by just .05 for the spot. Oelsner, Youngjin Suk and Mihai Tentea rounded out the top six.

The gold medal brings Baumgartner 12 points ahead of Oelsner and 26 points back of Jannusch for the IBSF European Cup 4-man title with one race to go.
