From Lake Placid, USA
(Jan. 24, 2019) – Ashleigh Pittaway won her first Intercontinental Cup gold medal in Lake Placid.
The Brit was the quickest in both heats on her way to a .76 victory over teammate Brogan Crowley. The win was her first in the Intercontinental Cup, and her second of the season overall (Calgary NAC, 1/10/2019).
Crowley’s silver medal was both a career best on the Intercontinental Cup, and a best ever finish in North America.
Anna Fernstädt finished third, just .11 out of silver.
Alena Frolova, Susanne Kreher, and Corinna Leipold rounded out the top six.
With Fernstädt’s bronze medal in the first of two Lake Placid races, she holds 46 point lead over Pittaway and can clinch the ICC title with an eighth place finish in the Lake Placid finale.
Megan Henry led the way for the United States with an eighth place finish. Teammates Sara Roderick and Samantha Culiver McQuade finished tenth and 17th respectively.
Lanette Prediger was the top-scoring Canadian in 11th, while Madi Charney and Jaclyn LaBerge finished 14th and 15th.
Leslie Stratton finished 18th.
