From Königssee, GER
Dec. 21, 2019 – Jonas Jannusch led a German sweep of the European Cup 4-man podium in Königssee, edging out Philipp Zielasko and Bennet Buchmüller to do so.
Jannusch leapfrogged Dmitriy Popov to take gold after the Russian made a late mistake to fall out of medal contention. That mistake gave Jannusch his second European Cup 4-man gold of the season.
Rookie Philipp Zielasko finished second in his first career IBSF 4-man race, only .01 behind Jannusch on the strength of the fastest run of the second heat. Bennet Buchmüller finished third, only .03 behind Jannusch.
Popov finished fourth, .18 out of gold, while Patrick Baumgartner and Timo Rohner rounded out the top six. Rohner moved up from 11th to get into the top six.
Oskars Melbardis continued his streaky return to racing with a seventh place finish. He came into the second heat in fourth place, but a 13th quickest run in the second heat dropped him down the order.
