Austria Cruises to FIL Natural Track Team Victory

From Winterleiten, AUT

Jan. 5, 2020 – The Austrian team of Tina Unterberger and Michael Scheikl cruised to victory in the FIL Natural Track team competition in Winterleiten, winning by nearly four seconds.

Both Unterberger and Scheikl were at least a second and a half faster than anyone else in each heat, giving them an easy victory over the Russian duo of Ekaterina Lavrenteva and Aleksandr Egorov.

The gold medal run was aided by a DNF for the Italian team of Evelin Lanthaler and Patrick Pigneter, the two athletes who likely could have given Unterberger and Scheikl a run for gold.

Germans Sara Bachmann and Oliver Schiller finished third, almost four seconds ahead of Poland’s Julia Plowy and Adam Jedrzejko. Argentina scored a fifth place finish, while Ukraine rounded out the top six.
