Jan. 31, 2020 – Seunggi Jung won Intercontinental Cup gold on his home ice in Pyeongchang, the first ICC race to be held on the 2018 Olympic track.
Jung was second-quickest off the top in both heats and was quickest at the bottom for a .6 second victory over ICC point leader Christopher Grotheer.
The win is the second for Jung on the ICC tour, previously winning gold in Winterberg. In his last nine races, Jung has not finished outside of the top four.
Grotheer finished second, more than enough to clinch the ICC title with one race to go.
British slider Craig Thompson had the fastest start in both races and the second fastest run in the second heat on his way to a bronze medal.
German slider Kilian von Schleinitz finished fourth in just his fourth race of any kind this season, while Nathan Crumpton and Mattia Gaspari rounded out the top six.
American Austin McCrary finished an ICC career-best seventh, while Stephen Garbett moved up from 12th into the top ten with a tenth place effort. Mike Rogals moved up from 15th to 13th with a strong second run to round out the American effort.
Mark Lynch was the top-finishing Canadian in eighth. Teammate Dave Greszczyszyn finished tied for 17th after trouble in the second run dropped him from 11th.
Stefan Squire finished 14th on the second british sled, one spot ahead of Ireland’s Brendan Doyle.
