From St. Moritz, SUI
Feb. 19, 2021 – Switzerland’s Christopher Stewart slid to victory as part of a Swiss 1-2 on home ice in St. Moritz.
Stewart and teammate Jonas Frei sat .01 apart after one heat. On the second run Frei moved to the lead with only Stewart to go, putting down the fastest run of the race to that point. Stewart answered, with a time .18 faster than Frei to take gold by .19.
The gold for Stewart was his fourth, while the silver for Frei was a career best.
Race 1 winner, Lonnie Bissonnette, finished third. The Canadian couldn’t match his previous day’s effort and after two races finds himself 10 points behind Stewart in the tour’s points with three races to go.
Sweden’s Sebastian Westin finished fourth, up one spot from his previous day’s finish, while Corie Mapp finished fifth for Great Britain. Latvia’s Alvils Brants rounded out the top six.
The tour has one more World Cup race in St. Moritz, as well as the Para Sport World Championships, before moving to La Plange to finish out the year.
