Westin Wins Second Straight Para Sport World Cup Gold

From La Plagne, FRA

(Mar. 6, 2021) – Sebastian Westin won his second straight IBSF Para Sport World Cup race as the tour moved to La Plagne for its final two races of the season. The Swedish slider came into the second heat .21 behind Switzerland’s Christopher Stewart, but on the second run he put down the heat’s quickest run to move into the lead with just Stewart to go. Stewart made a rare mistake mid-run to leave him fifth in the heat, and second in the race, just .02 behind Westin.

The gold for Westin was his second straight on the season, while Stewart scored his fourth straight medal to start the season.

Great Britain’s Corie Mapp had the third quickest run in both heats on his way to a bronze medal, only .06 out of gold and .04 out of silver. Swiss pilot Jonas Frei finished fourth, while Austria’s Hermann Ellmauer and Latvia’s Arturs Klots finished tied for fifth.

Canada’s Lonnie Bissonnette lost ground in the World Cup standings in the penultimate race of the season, finishing seventh. Stewart leads with one race to go.
