From Lake Placid, USA
(December 19, 2021) – Frank Del Duca and his team edged out Taylor Austin’s squad by the slightest of margins in what was an exciting four-man bobsled race in Lake Placid.
Del Duca’s team gave him the quick push in the first heat, and that plus a clean drive by the American put him into the lead by .14 over Austin. Austin’s squad rallied back, tying Del Duca’s for the top push in the second heat. Austin used that to his advantage as he slid to the quick time of the second heat. Del Duca answered, and while he was off the pace in the second run he had enough in the bank to edge out Austin by just .01 to take gold.
The win for Del Duca was his second gold of the season, while the silver for Austin was his second. Both pilots have finished on the podium for every four-man race during the 2021/2022 North American Cup season.
The United States placed both of their pilots on the podium, as Tyler Hickey finished third.
Brazil’s Edson Bindilatti finished fourth for the fifth time in seven races, while China’s Kaizhi Sun and Jamaica’s Shanwayne Stephens rounded out the top six.
Korea’s Youngjin Suk came into the second heat in second place, only .09 back, but crashed on his second run.
