Germany Wins Penultimate Team Relay

From Oberhof, GER

(January 16, 2022) – Germany won their 43rd Team Relay, cruising to victory in Oberhof.

The team kicked off their run with a flier by Julia Taubitz, who opened up nearly a .4 second advantage over the Latvian team. Johannes Ludwig held that advantage, and Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken opened up another .2 to give the Germans a victory by just over a half of a second.

The win was the 43rd for Germany.

Latvia won a silver medal in the relay on the strength of a quick run by Andris & Juris Sics. They held off a quick run by Thomas Steu & Lorenz Koller by .006. The Austrians won bronze.

Italy finished fourth, ahead of Russia in fifth and Slovakia in sixth.

Canada finished seventh.
