Frei Wins Igls Para Sport Bobsled Race

From Igls, AUT

(February 10, 2022) – Jonas Frei won the first of the three Para Sport World Cup bobsled races to be held this week in Igls.

Frei was the quick slider in both heats on his way to a .24 second victory over Great Britain’s Corie Mapp.

In the first run, Frei set the quick time ahead of the United States’ Guillermo Castillo, with Mapp and Spain’s Israel Blanco within shouting distance of the lead. On the second run Castillo made a late mistake that dropped him to third with only Frei to go. Frei was once again nearly perfect as he slid to the quickest time of the heat again to secure gold.

Mapp moved up from third to second with his second run, while Blanco slid to third.

Castillo settled for fourth, while Switzerland’s Christopher Stewart and the United States’ Robert Balk rounded out the top six.

Slovenia’s Ziva Lavrinc rounded out the seven sled field. The field was smaller than normal due to the race being a makeup race for the canceled Park City #2 event.
