USA’s Ro Wins Gold in Lillehammer

From Lillehammer, NOR

(November 11, 2022) – The United States’ Mystique Ro won her first career Intercontinental Cup gold medal in Lillehammer, beating a strong field for top honors.

Ro was the quick slider in the first heat, .22 ahead of Olympian and two-time World Cup medalist Valentina Margaglio, with Amelia Coltman and Jacqueline Lölling in the hunt as well.

On the second run Lölling, the 2018 Olympic silver medalist, set the quick run of the heat to move into the lead with three women to go. Coltman couldn’t match her first run effort and eventually finished off the podium in sixth, and Margaglio was quick, but struggled off the start and didn’t have enough in her run to unseat Lölling.

That left Ro, who finished second overall in European Cup action a year ago. Ro put down the quickest start of the heat, and despite a small error late in her run, had enough in her first run to take gold, her first in ICC action and first in Lillehammer.

Lólling finished second, .14 back, while Margaglio held on for third.

Germany’s Corinna Liepold and Sarah Wimmer finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

Michelle Toukan finished just out of the top ten in 11th, while Liechtenstein’s Katharina Eigenmann finished 12th.
