Margaglio Wins First Gold in Lillehammer ICC

From Lillehammer, NOR

(November 12, 2022) – Valentina Margaglio came from behind to win the second race of the Intercontinental Cup season, edging out a strong field of sliders.

Margaglio trailed Germany’s Jacqueline Lölling by .11 going into the second heat. On that second run Margaglio set the start time of the weekend and was the quickest at every split to move into the lead with only Lölling to go. The German was her traditionally quick self, but couldn’t make up the time lost to Margaglio off the top and fell to second, .11 back.

The gold was the first for Margaglio in international competition. She had previously finished with a silver in Altenberg World Cup competition. The gold also gave Italy three gold medals on the weekend, with teammate Mattia Gaspari sweeping on the men’s side.

Germany took the rest of the podium, with Lölling and teammate Corinna Leipold taking silver and bronze.

The United States’ Mystique Ro, who won the opening event of the season, had a late mistake that dropped her out of the medals in into fourth, .08 out of silver. Germany’s Sarah Wimmer and Great Britain’s Ameila Coltman rounded out the top six.

The United States’ Michelle Toukan finished 11th, while Liechtenstein’s Katharina Eigenmann finished 12th.
