Ribi Wins First IBSF Gold in 2-Woman Opener

From Whistler, CAN

(November 12, 2022) – Bianca Ribi won her first IBSF gold in North American Cup action on Saturday, edging out her teammates for top honors.

Ribi and brakewoman Niamh Haughey entered the second heat .03 behind Appiah and Leah Walkeden. In that heat Ribi went first and once again had the second quickest time, this time behind the sled piloted by Kaillie Humphries. Appiah was the final pilot down, and while her start time matched Ribi’s, she was unable to match the downtime, eventually crossing the timing line .02 out of first place.

The gold medal was the first in international competition for both Ribi and Haughey. Appiah and Walkeden set the quick start time of the event in the first heat with a 5.21.

Humphries and brakewoman Emily Renna finished third. They entered the second heat .41 back, but a great drive by Humphries cut that gap in half and was good enough for a bronze medal.

Swiss pilot Melanie Hasler finished fourth, two seconds off of Ribi’s pace. American Riley Compton finished fifth, three seconds off the pace, while Viktoria Cernanska finished sixth.

Nicole Vogt crashed in her second heat and did not finish.
