Blanco Wins Para Bobsled Gold in Lake Placid

(November 20, 2022) – Israel Blanco won his second career IBSF Para Sport World Cup gold, cruising to victory in Lake Placid.

Blanco had the quick time in both heats to win by .38 over Race 1 winner Guillermo Castillo to win his second gold medal, with the first coming one season ago, also in Lake Placid.

Castillo jumped up from third to second in the second heat to win silver. His silver came at the expense of teammate Robert Balk and Swiss pilot Jonas Frei. Balk made the jump from fifth to third, while Frei fell from second out of the medals to fourth.

Great Britain’s Corie Mapp finished fifth, up from sixth in the first heat, while Canada’s Lonnie Bissonnette moved up from eighth to sixth.

American rookies Austin Parker and David Christpher finished 12th and 13th, respectively.
