LaBerge Wins NAC Gold in Park City

From Park City, USA

(November 21, 2022) – Canada’s Jaclyn LaBerge won her first IBSF gold medal in seven years with a strong performance in the third race of the North American Cup in Park City.

LaBerge was the quickest of the field in the first heat, ahead of the US Virgin Islands’ Katie Tannenbaum by .34. On the second run LaBerge was once again the quickest woman down the 2002 Olympic track, this time by .45 on her way to a .79 second victory.

The win was the first for LaBerge since November of 2015 in Calgary.

Tannenbaum took silver in her first race of the season, her best finish since the 2019/2020 NAC season, also in Park City.

On top of LaBerge’s victory, Canada put together a strong showing in Park City. Natalie Coughlin set the quick start time in both heats on her way to a bronze medal, the first of her career. Teammate Grace Dafoe finished fourth, just .05 out of the medals for her best finish since a gold in Whistler during the 2017/2018 season, while teammate Tirza Lara finished fifth in what was her best ever finish.

France’s Paige Alford rounded out the top six, also with a career best finish.

Puerto Rico’s Kellie Delka was originally declared the winner, having edged out LaBerge over two heats, but was later disqualified after her sled’s saddle was determined to be too high.
