Humphries Wins Monobob Gold in Park City

From Park City, USA

(December 2, 2022) – Kaillie Humphries is the defending Olympic women’s monobob champion. She’s also the defending monobob world champion. As the IBSF World Cup made its way to Park City, she added “World Cup winner” and “Park City track record holder” to her titles as well.

Humphries took the lead in what was a very tight first heat, with Germany’s Laura Nolte and Lisa Buckwitz just .04 behind her and both Switerland’s Melanie Hasler and Canada’s Cynthia Appiah in the hunt as well.

Humphries, who broke the old track record set a year ago by Alysia Rissling (50.80, November 23, 2021), threw down a monster second run that was nearly .4 faster than her first heat to solidify the win, her first of the 2022/2023 World Cup season.

Behind Humphries, Lisa Buckwitz won her first World Cup medal as a pilot while breaking the start record (also Rissling, 5.58). Her silver came at the expensive of Canada’s Cynthia Appiah.

Appiah entered the second heat in fifth place, but easily within range of the medals. Her second run was the second quickest time ever recorded at Park City in a monobob and was enough to catapult her into the medals with a bronze.

Germany’s Laura Nolte entered the second heat in a tie for second with Buckwitz, but her second run was the fourth quickest as she was edged out of the medals by Appiah by just .01.

Swiss pilot Melanie Hasler finished fifth, while Germany’s Kim Kalicki rounded out the top six.

Canada’s Bianca Ribi couldn’t duplicate her outstanding opening race and finished seventh, while the USA’s Nicole Vogt and Riley Compton finished eighth and ninth respectively.

Two races into the World Cup season and Humphries is your World Cup leader by 15 points over Appiah, while Ribi sits third. Hasler, Buckwitz, and Nolte round out the top six.
