Egle’s first run was the fastest ever in Igls, with her 39.584 well under the old track record of 39.701 (Taubitz). That gave her ample cushion between her and the field behind her. Egle’s second run, while not another track record, was still the second fastest of the competition as she took gold to start the 2022/2023 season.

Behind Egle, USA’s Emily Sweeney found herself in third after the first run, but a third-quickest second run that was also under the old track record was enough to move her just ahead of Germany’s Julia Taubitz to take silver.

Taubitz, the track record holder coming into the race, finished only .032 behind the American in third.

Austria’s Hannah Prock was the big mover of the second heat. She found herself in a tie for 11th after one run, but threw down the second quickest run of the heat  in the second run to move up to fourth place, just ahead of Gerrmanys Anna Berreiter in fifth.

German Rookie Merle Fräbel rounded out the top six.

The United States had a strong showing to start the World Cup season. Along with Sweeney’s silver medal, Ashley Farquharson and Summer Britcher both finished in the top ten. Farquharson finished tied for seventh with Latvia’s Elina Vitola, while Britcher finished just behind in ninth. Brittney Arndt rounded out the American effort with a 19th place finish.

Lisa Schulte was disqualified after having runners that were deeemed too hot.
