Zimmer Cruises to EC Monobob Finale Victory, Season Title

From Winterberg, GER

(February 17, 2023) – Maureen Zimmer, the women’s monobob junior world champion, cruised to a decisive victory in Winterberg and with it the season title.

Zimmer opened up a .82 second lead over Nigeria’s Simidele Adeagbo after the first heat, with Romania’s Georgeta Popescu, Germany’s Diana Flilipski and Poland’s Linda Weiszewski all lingering in the hunt for medals behind her.

Weizewski’s second slide was enough to move into the lead, but she was quickly bumped out of the top spot by Filipszki. However, neither Popescu nor Adeagbo could match their first run efforts and both fell out of medal contention to guarantee both Filipszki and Weiszewski medals.

Zimmer’s second run was a glorified victory lap, but she still managed the quick start of the heat and the quick split at every interval on the way down on her way to a gold medal by 1.26 over Filipszki, with Weiszewski winning her first ever medal in an official race.

Adeagbo finished the event in fourth, with Belgium’s Kelly van Petegem and Italy’s Giada Andreutti rounding out the top six.

USA’s Nicole Vogt finished the race in tenth, two spots ahead of teammate Riley Compton.

Canada’s Eden Wilson made her European monobob debut, but crashed in her second run and did not finish.

Zimmer had all but clinched the season title coming into the event, and finished her season 168 points ahead of Andreea Grecu, while Popescu finished the season in third place in the women’s monobob discipline.
