Nydegger Wins Men’s ICC Finale

From Igls, AUT

(February 18, 2023) – Lukas Nydegger won the final race of the 2022/2023 IBSF Intercontinental Cup season, beating out the series champion in the process.

Nydegger opened up a .27 second lead over Alexander Schlintner on Schlintner’s home track, with Great Britain’s Jacob Salisbury and newly crowned champion Alexander Gassner all in the hunt for medals.

On the second run Gassner and Salisbury both put down runs that were, if nothing else, clean enough to put themselves in contention for a victory. Schlintner’s second effort had troubles late as he fell to third with Nydegger still to go.

Nydegger’s second run was even quicker than his first as he slid to a .39 second victory over Salisbury, with Gassner third.

Schlintner finished the race in fourth, .08 out of the medals. Felix Seibel and Laurence Bostock rounded out the top six.

USA’s Daniel Barefoot barely missed out of a top six in seventh place, while Canada’s Ryan Kuehn finished 14th. Australia’s Peter Makrides tied a career-best finish in Europen with a 17th place effort.

Alexander Gassner had already clinched the season title. Felix Seibel finished the season in second, just four points ahead of Jacob Salisbury.
