From Lake Placid, USA

(November 16, 2023) – Kaysha Love, one of the United States’ top brakewoman of the past few seasons, scored her first gold medal as a monobob pilot on Thursday with a decisive victory in Lake Placid.

Love went off the top last in the first heat with a strong push, second quickest of the heat. By midway down the track she’d taken the lead and by the time she’d crossed the finish line she had a .47 lead over teammate Sylvia Hoffman, with USA’s Lauren Brzozowski and Canada’s Melissa Lotholz both in the mix.

On the second run Lotholz took and held the lead as both Brzozowski and Hoffman couldn’t match her pace.

Love was the last athlete of the race down. She tied Hoffman’s push and set the quick time at every split int he heat on her way to a .97 second victory over Lotholz.

Brzozowski held on for bronze, .24 behind Lotholz. Hoffman and teammate Riley Tejcek finished just out of the medals in fourth and fifth, with Slovakia’s Viktoria Cernanska rounding out the top six.

South Korea’s Inyoung Park finished seventh, Canada’s Kristen Bujnowski eighth, with teammates Eden Wilson and Erica Voss rounding out the ten sled field.

Australia’s Bree Walker, the previous day’s winner, did not start.

The North American Cup women’s bobsled program continues later in the week with two-woman bobsled before heading to Whistler in early December.
