Lotholz Wins Second Straight in Whistler

From Whistler, CAN

(November 30, 2023) – Melissa Lotholz took her second straight IBSF North American Cup gold medal in women’s monobob on Thursday, this time coming from behind to win gold.

After one heat it was Slovakia’s Viktoria Cernanska with a .13 second lead over Lotholz, with Lotholz’s teammate Erica Voss in third only .19 back. On the second run Voss held her spot for her second straight NAC medal.

Next it was Lotholz, who had a better drive than her first and took the lead by over a half of a second over her teammate, solidifying yet another medal for her.

The final slider of the day was Cernanska. The Slovakian had a nearly identical start to her first run, but just couldn’t match the clean trip down the 2010 Olympic track and finished second, .42 behind Lotholz.

The gold for Lotholz was her second straight and sixth medal in a row between monobob and two-woman bobsled since coming back from a year off. For Cernanska, the silver medal was her eighth in 14 North American Cup races.

Canada’s Mackenzie Stewart once again had a strong showing with a fourth place effort, ahead of South Korea’s Inyoung Park who finished fifth.

Lauren Brzozowski of the United States rounded out the top six.

USA’s Riley Tejcek and Sylvia Hoffman finished seventh and eighth, while Canada’s Kristen Bujnowski finished out the nine sled field.
