Malyk Stays Perfect in Whistler

From Whistler, CAN

(November 30, 2023) – Carter Malyk stayed perfect on the season with a dominating win on home ice in Whistler.

Malyk and brakeman Sam Cuciz opened up a commanding .67 second lead over the United States’ Kristopher Horn and Adrian Adams after the first run, with Israel’s AJ Edelman in the mix in third.

On the second run Edelman put down a run just a tenth off his first effort to take the lead and his solidify his first IBSF medal.

Horn was next, and despite an issue late in his run he scored a career-best finish as a two-man bobsled pilot with a silver.

Malyk’s second drive was effectively a victory lap. He and Cuciz pushed off with a big lead of .6 off the top and let that lead grow until they finished with a 1.75 second victory over Horn and Adams.

On top of their silver medal, Horn and Adams also had the two best start times of the race.

For the second time in as many races, Taylor Austin had a throwaway run that kept him out of the medals. This time it was his first, where he was 2.76 seconds out of the lead after the first run, but closed the gap slightly in the second heat with a heat-fastest run to finish fourth.

Australia’s Rhys Peters and South Korea’s Hyeonggeun Kim rounded out the top six, with Australia’s Cam Scott scoring a seventh place finish.
