Sim Wins Second Straight in Park City

From Park City, USA

(December 10, 2023) – South Korea’s Hyungjun Sim won his second straight North American Cup race in Park City, once again beating Ireland’s Brendan Doyle for top honors.

Sim held a slim .18 second advantage over the 2022/2023 NAC men’s skeleton champion, while the United States’ Bradley Nicol sat in third in search of his second medal of the 2023/2024 season, .33 out of the lead.

The second run saw Nicol take the lead and guarantee himself a medal, ahead of Canada’s Mark Lynch who overcame a rough first run to move up into what would eventually be fourth place.

Doyle’s second slide was more than enough to move into the lead with only Sim to go. Sim’s second run was quicker than his first, given the Korean slider the fast run in both heats on his way to gold, with Doyle silver and Nicol bronze.

Lynch moved up from seventh to fourth, while USA’s Darryl Payne finished fifth. Malaysia’s Jonathan Yaw rounded out the top six for the second time in as many days.

Canada’s Sebastien Reginer finished ninth, while teammates Jacob Coleman and Marc-Antoine Vigneault finished 11th and 12th respectively.

The United States’ Baden Park finished tenth, while Noah Park and Andrew Whittier -Neises finished 13th and 14th.

After six races in the IBSF North American Cup men’s skeleton season, Ireland’s Brendan Doyle has a ten point advantage over Canadian junior Ryan Kuehn. South Korea’s Hyungjun Sim is third overall after winning twice in Park City, while Malaysia’s Jonathan Yaw sits fourth, 30 points ahead of USA’s Bradley Nicol in fifth.

The tour will take a short break and then will reconvene in Lake Placid in mid-March for the final two races of the season.
