Bujnowski Wins First NAC Gold as Pilot

From Park City, USA

(December 13, 2023) – As a brakewoman, Canada’s Kristen Bujnowski has accomplished a lot over the course of her IBSF bobsled career. On the World Cup she’d won eight medals (three silver, five bronze), and three World Championship medals (a silver and two bronze).

On Wednesday Bujnowski won her first gold medal as a pilot, as she slid to a .24 second victory over teammate Melissa Lotholz.

Bujnowski opened up a .06 second advantage over Lotholz after the first heat on the strength of the quickest start of the race.

In the second heat Lotholz took the lead with just Bujnowski to go. Bujnowski responded with the fastest start of the competition and backed i tup with the quickest run of the race to win gold over Lotholz.

It was the second straight medal for Bujnowski in monobob North American Cup. For Lotholz, the silver was her ninth medal in ten North American Cup races between monobob and two-woman bobsled since her return to action.

The United States’ Riley Tejcek won her second medal of the 2023/2024 NAC season with a bronze, under a half of a second behind Bujnowski.

Canada’s Erica Voss continued a strong showing for Canada in Park City in fourth, only .03 ahead of the United States’ Sylvia Hoffman in fifth. Lauren Brzozowski helped put all three American sleds in the top six in sixth.

Canada’s Mackenzie Stewart finished seventh, while South Korea’s Inyoung Park finished eighth.
