Lotholz Wins Third Straight NAC Monobob

From Park City, USA

(December 12, 2023) – Melissa Lotholz won her third straight North American Cup women’s monobob race of the season as she slid to victory in Park City.

Lotholz opened up a .31 second victory over the United States’ Sylvia Hoffman, with USA’s Lauren Brzozowski and Riley Tejcek both in the mix for the medals.

In the second heat, Canada’s Kristen Bujnowski put down a fast time to take the lead from fifth place. Her time was good enough to pick off Tejceck before Brzozowski took the lead from third to guarantee a medal for the United States.

Hoffman’s second run started off strong with the fastest start of the competition, but trouble arose as the American crashed midway in her run and while she finished, she was scored last in the eight sled field.

That left Lotholz to go, and the Canadian set the quick time of the heat to cruise to a .96 second victory over Brzozowski, with Bujnowski in third.

Brzozowski’s silver was her best monobob finish of the season and second best finish ever. Bujnowski’s bronze was the first career medal as a pilot for the highly decorated former brakewoman.

South Korea’s Inyoung Park moved up to fourth from fifth in the first heat, while Canada’s Mackenzie Stewart threw down a big second run to move up from eighth to fifth.

Tejceck finished the race in sixth, just ahead of Erica Voss of Canada in seventh.
