(February 8, 2025) – Diana Filipszki and Carolin Kupsch barely edged out teammates Charlotte Candrix and Mira Baus on Saturday as they won by just .02 in Altenberg.
Candrix held a .19 second advantage over Filipszki after the first heat. Behind them, nobody was close, with Inola Blatty in third, .7 back.
Filipszki and Kupsch picked up .07 on their start, and Filipszki put down the best drive of the heat to take the lead by a yawning 1.1 seconds over Blatty, with Candrix still to go.
Candrix and Baus had the quick start of the second heat, but Candrix began to bleed time almost immediately. Over the course of her run, Candrix continued to come back to Filipszki and was edged out by her teammate by just .02 at the line.
Filipszki’s win was her first of the year, while Candrix’s silver gave her five medals in five races, three of which being wins.
Blatty and brakewoman Noemi Beutler were third, over a second back. Italy’s Giada Andreutti and Martina Favaretto were fourth, Romania’s Georgeta Popescu and Madeea Musulete fifth, and Austria’s Lea Haslwanter and Linda Braun sixth.
Italy’s Simona de Silvestro and Anna Costella were eighth.
With three races to go in the Europe Cup two-woman season, Candrix has a commanding lead over Blatty. Maureen Zimmer, who did not start this race, was third, with Selina Isler fourth and Simona de Silvestro fifth.
