Langenhan Cruises to Yanqing Gold

From Yanqing, CHN

(February 23, 2025) – Like his teammates Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt earlier in the day, Max Langenhan just needed to maintain the form he had all season long to win his second straight men’s luge overall Crystal Globe. And like Wendl and Alrt, he threw caution to the wind and slid to gold in the season finale.

Langenhan held the lead after the first heat, but only by .061 over Austria’s Jonas Müller, with the remainder of the field led by Dominik Fischnaller over three tenths back. That turned the second heat into a two sled race for gold.

In that race, Müller went first and a few mistakes out on the course kept him well ahead of teammate David Gleirscher, who leapfrogged Fischnaller to get on the podium, but left the door wide open for Langenhan.

Over the past two seasons, Max Langenhan has not been an athlete who has needed much help, so when the door is open, Langenhan more times than not scoots right through. And that’s what he did on Sunday. He not only set the quick run of the heat, but his second run was the quick run of the race on his way to a half of a second victory over Müller, with David Gleirscher in third.

The win was the fourth of the season for Langenhan. Afterward, he spoke to the FIL media about his race.

“I’m super happy, especially ending the season with two perfect runs,” he said. “In the end it was a super season, I was the world champion and now the overall as well, I’m super stoked!”

Müller’s second slide wasn’t great, but was enough to keep him ahead of Gleirscher for silver, with David Gleirscher bronze.

Fischnaller finished in fourth place, .066 behind Daivd Gleirscher. Nico Gleirscher was never a factor in the medal discussion and finished fifth.

Latvia’s Kristers Aparjods finished sixth.

Australia’s Alex Ferlazzo had a great final run to his season, enough to move up from 17th in the first heat to 12th.

USA’s Tucker West crashed in the first heat and finished 27th.

Max Langenhan finished the season 103 points ahead of Nico Gleirscher in second. Felix Loch was third overall, only two points ahead of Jonas Müller in fourth. Wolfgang Kindl finished the season in fifth.
