From Tampere, FIN
(June 24, 2025) – During the 2025 Annual Congress of the International Luge Federation, the FIL voted on numerous changes to the natural track World Cup, beginning with the name.
The tour will now be called the Alpine Luge World Cup, with a new logo to go with it.
The change to “Alpine Luge” indicates a slight change in direction for the FIL as it relates to it’s natural track sliding. Since its inception, the tour has slid on the classic naturally cooled ice tracks in places like Winterleiten, Laas, and Vatra Dornei. But in recent years, the FIL has looked into a more accessible form of sliding that is on more of a packed snow course with gates, almost like downhill skiing.
Along with the changes to the name and logo, the championships for the coming years were also decided, with Laas hosting in 2026 for the European Championships, the 2027 World Championship will be held in Igls alongside the FIL Luge World Championships. The 2029 World Champs will be held in Jaufental.
The congress also voted to continue to exclude Russia from their events. In a press release, the FIL stated “due to Russia’s ongoing war of aggression against Ukraine, which violates international law, athletes and officials from Russia will not be allowed to participate in any competitions of the International Luge Federation in the upcoming season. This includes under a neutral flag.
The FIL Alpine Luge World Cup begins its season with double races in Winterleiten, before heading to Passeiertal, Deutschnofen, Umhausen, and Jaufental, with the European Championships scheduled fror Laas.
