Citing Homologation Issues, FIL Moves Opener to Winterberg

(November 15, 2025) – The International Luge Federation announced on Saturday that the opening race of the 2025/2026 World Cup season would be moved form Igls to Winterberg after the homologation for luge did not go as planned.

While the details given were sparce, the federation said in a press release that “despite intensive reworking in recent days, the track was unable to fully meet the technical requirements of the FIL.” In turn, the tour will open its season in Winterberg before heading to North America for races in Park City and Lake Placid.

With the short notice move to Winterberg, the FIL also announced that the test event in Cortina has been upgraded to an Olympic qualifying event, while the opening race in Winterberg will not be.

IBSF Homologation Successful (Updated Nov. 17, 2025)

Shortly after the FIL announced the changes to their schedule due to an issue with their homologation, the International Bobsled and Skeleton Federation had a successful homologation for monobob, two-man, two-woman, and skeleton. On Monday, the IBSF completed the homologation process with successful runs in four-man bobsled.

The FIL World Cup kicks off in Winterberg in the first weekend of December, while the IBSF season starts this weekend in Cortina.
