From Altenberg, GER
(December 10, 2025) – Leona Klein came from behind to beat out teammate Charlotte Candrix to win her first career Europe Cup monobob gold in Altenberg.
Klein trailed Candrix by .11 after the first heat, with USA’s Lauren Brzozowski sitting third just .39 out of the lead. It was Kelly van Petegem though who lit up the second heat.
The Belgian entered the second heat in eighth place, .76 back after a little bit of a bumpy run. Her second run was better than anything that had been put down in the day as she took the lead from Austria’s Lea Haslwanter and then held it as slider after slider failed to pick her off.
Eventually, Klein had a run that was quicker than everyone but van Petegem’s and enough to take the lead by over a half of a second with only Candrix still to go.
Candrix set the quick start of the race in the second heat, but an early mistake set her back, and she was unable to recover as she fell to second behind Klein but still gave Germany a one-two finish.
Klein took gold, Candrix silver, van Petegem bronze, with Italy’s Simona De Silvestro sliding into fourth place, .11 ahead of Brzozowski in fifth.
Switzerland’s Selina Isler finished sixth.
Nigeria’s Simi Adeagbo continued a strong start to her monobob season with a tenth place finish, just ahead of Australia’s Sarah Blizzard.
