Klein Sweeps Altenberg EC Monobob Stop

From Altenberg, GER

(December 11, 2025) – A day after winning her first gold medal in Europe Cup monobob action, Leona Klein found herself once again atop the podium, this time holding off Belgian Kelly Van Petegem for the top spot.

In the first heat, Klein picked off teammate Charlotte Candrix and held the top spot for the remainder of the heat, with Van Petegem third.

Well in the back of the field was USA’s Lauren Brzozowski, who’d had trouble in her first run and found herself ninth. Her second effort was the best of the day by anyone, and was enough to catapult her up the order, eventually holding the lead with just the top three to go.

Van Petegem was next, and nearly matched Brzozowski’s second effort as she took the lead from the American with the two Germans still to go.

Candrix, one of the top pushers on tour, set the quick start of the second heat and early on held a decent advantage over Van Petegem. However some issues late eventually dropped her behind the Belgian, giving Van Petegem a chance at a third gold medal.

However it was not to be. Klein was strong off the top, and while her second run trailed behind both Van Petegem and Brzozowski, she was more than quick enough over two runs to take gold, .09 ahead of the Belgian and .43 ahead of Candrix.

Brzozowski was fourth, Switzerland’s Selina Isler fifth, and Australia’s Sarah Blizzard sixth.

Both Italian women struggled in the race, with Simona De Silvestro 4.26 seconds off the combined downtime of Klein, and Andreutti 8.33 after a crash in her second heat.

At the midway point of the 2025/2026 Europe Cup monobob season, Charlotte Candrix leads the way handily over teammate Leona Klein. Lauren Brzozowski sits third, tied with Selina Isler. Simona De Silvestro is fifth, with teammate Giada Andreutti 42 points back in sixth.
