From Altenberg, GER
(December 13, 2025) – Hans Peter Hannighofer rallied in the second heat in Altenberg to take gold as part of a German sweep of the top four spots in four-man bobsled action.
Hannighofer and his team trailed Maxmilian Illmann by .18 after one run, with Alexander Czudaj and Laurin Zern in third and fourth.
Zern held his spot in the second heat as he easily beat out Lichtenstein’s Martin Kranz to guarantee Germany a gold medal. Zern, though, was immediately outclassed by Czudaj.
Hannighofer was next, and put down the quick downtime of the race to put the pressure on his German teammate. Illmann was quick in his second run, but a small issue midway down set him back as he finished second, .07 out of first.
Hannighofer took gold, Illmann silver, and Czudaj bronze with Zern fourth for another German sweep of the top four. Kranz was fifth and Romania’s Andrei Turea rounded out the top six.
