Meylemans Slides to Second Straight in Sigulda

(December 19, 2025) – Kim Meylemans backed up her gold medal on Thursday in Sigulda with another one on Friday, this time with an impressive rally from outside the top three.

Meylemans was in fourth after the first heat, trailing leader Janine Flock by .31, with Czechia’s Anna Fernstädt .07 ahead in third. Kimberley Bos sat second, trailing Flock by .18.

But as it has been throughout this Sigulda stop, the first heat was not terribly indicative of how the second heat would go.

Germany’s Hannah Neise came into the second run in eighth place, but took the lead from teammate Corinna Leipold and then held the leader’s box as neither Jacqueline Pfeifer or Freya Tarbit could bump her out.

Neise was eventually moved out of the box by Great Britain’s Amelia Coltman, who was looking for her first medal this season. Coltman was quickly beaten out by Meylemans, who took the leader’s box with the top three still to go.

Fernstädt was next. Outstarted by Meylemans by .19, the Czech slider closed her gap to Meylemans throughout her run but ran out of track as she fell to second place with two to go.

Bos was next. Like in her race on Thursday, she came into the heat contending for medals, and like in that race she couldn’t match her first run effort and fell out of the medals, this time settling for eighth.

Austria’s Flock was the last slider off the top. Usually very good in Sigulda, Flock made some uncharacteristic mistakes throughout her run and fell out of the medals into fourth, giving Meylemans her second victory in a row.

Meylemans’s gold was the third of her career, while Fernstädt’s silver was medal number five. Coltman’s bronze was her third in women’s skeleton action.

Flock took fourth, with Neise fifth and Tarbit sixth.

Tabitha Stoecker, the first heat leader on Thursday, had a great run going in her first heat but made a costly mistake late in her run that left her 19th. Her second run was the quickest of the second heat as she finished 15th.

It was another tough day for the American women in Sigulda. Kelly Curtis led the way in 22nd place, with Mystique Ro 25th. Kendall Wesenberg and Sara Roderick missed out on the second heat in 26th and 28th, respectively.

Hallie Clarke and Jane Channell were 16th and 18th for Canada.

After four races in the seven race World Cup season, Kim Meylemans holds a 41 point lead over Janine Flock, with Jacqueline Pfeifer in third. Hannah Neise and Anna Fernstädt round out the top five.
