Nolte Leads German Podium Sweep

From Winterberg, GER

(January 4, 2026) – Laura Nolte swept the women’s bobsled portion of the race weekend in style as she threw down a monster second run in the two-woman race in Winterberg to win gold.

Nolte and Deborah Levi had the quick start in the first heat, but Notle was out-slid by teammate Lisa Buckwitz by .11 as part of a German one-two-three with Kim Kalicki in third. Behinde them, Austria’s Kati Beierl and USA’s Kaillie Armbruster Humphries were in position to perhaps sneak into the medals.

In the second heat, Armbruster Humphries and Sylvia Hoffman put together a strong start and clean slide to take the lead and then hold it as Beierl and Christania Williams fell back to a tie with Melanie Hasler and Nadja Pasternack with the three German sleds still to go.

Kalicki was next. She and Leonie Fiebig matched a first heat start, and Kalicki came from behind early on to take the lead from Armbruster Humprhies to solidify a gold medal for Germany with two more German sleds still to come.

Nolte was next. She and Levi picked up .07 from their first start, and Nolte threw down a drive that was the quickest of the race by well over a quarter of a second to take the lead from Kalicki and put pressure on Buckwitz.

Buckwitz and Kira Lipperheide were faster off the top than in their first heat, but not as quick as Nolte, and by the third curve their lead had disintegrated. Buckwitz put down an otherwise clean drive, but nowhere near Nolte’s effort and fell to second, giving Nolte the win and Buckwitz the silver.

The win for Nolte was her 24th in two-woman action, while Buckwtiz’s silver was her second straight. Kalcki’s bronze was the 37th medal of her two-woman career.

Armbruster Humphries and Hoffman were fourth, Beierl and Williams tied for fifth with Hasler and Pasternack.

As in the monobob race, the United States’ women put together a strong day. Elana Meyers Taylor and Jasmine Jones moved up from 13th to eighth, just .2 out of a top five, while Kaysha Love and Azaria Hill had a pair of top three starts on their way to a tenth place finish.

Cynthia Appiah and Dawn Richardson Wilson slid to 11th place as the top Canadian sled in the field. Melissa Lotholz and Kelsey Mitchell picked up a spot in the second heat and finished 16th. Kristen Bujnowski and Skyler Sieben slid to 23rd.

Adele Nicoll and Kya Placide moved up from 2oth in the first heat into 18th for Great Britain, while Sarah Blizzard and Desi Johnson slid to a season-best 17th place for Australia.
