The American sat second after the first heat, trailing Germany’s Lisa Buckwitz by .16. Behind here were a handful of sliders all in medal contention on a St. Moritz track that has proved trickier than usual to a lot of sliders in all disciplines.

The second heat saw a good deal of both moving and shaking. Kati Beierl and Christiana Williams, eighth after the first heat, put down a good second run and climbed two spots before being overtaken by Laura Nolte and Leonie Kluwig. The Germans then picked off teammates Kim Kalicki and Taela Prepens and the Swiss team of Debora Annen and Salome Kora before eventually being bounced out of the leaders’ box by Switzerland’s Melanie Hasler and Nadja Pasternack.

Hasler was looking for her first career gold medal after being edged out of gold the previous day in monobob. Armbruster Humphries and Jasmine Jones were next and fell behind early. But Armbruster Humphries put down a smooth drive that, while not as quick as Hasler’s second drive, was just enough to hold off the Swiss slider by jus a hundredth of a second to take the lead with just Buckwitz to go.

Buckwitz and Kira Lipperheide, quick starters of the race, opened up early with another big start and Buckwitz appeared to be on her way to gold. However, a messy drive below Horseshoe scrubbed any speed she may have gained at the top half of the run, and as she crossed the line she found herself in fifth, with Armbruster Humphries celebrating gold.

The win was number 32 for Armbruster Humphries in two-woman bobsled and the second of her season. She has yet to finish outside of the top five in the current Olympic season.

For Hasler, it was another close call: Her second career silver medal in two-woman and fifth between two-woman and monobob.

Nolte hung on for bronze, just .03 behind Armbruster Humphries, after entering the second heat in sixth place. Her second run was the quickest of the competition.

Kalicki was fourth, Buckwitz fifth, and Beierl sixth.

The race also doubled as the European Championship, and in that Hasler and Pasternack won gold, ahead of Nolte and Kluwig, and Kalicki and Prepins.

Kaysha Love and Emily Renna slid to a tie for eighth with Canada’s Melissa Lotholz and Kelsey Mitchell, with Elana Meyers Taylor and Jadin O’Brien tenth.

Cynthia Appiah and Dawn Richardson Wilson were 14th in the second Canadian sled.

With one race to go in the 2025/2026 World Cup season, Laura Nolte leads Kaillie Armbruster Humphries, with Kim Kalicki, Lisa Buckwitz, and Melanie Hasler rounding out the top five.
