Nicoll Wins First Monobob Gold in Igls

From Igls, AUT

(January 14, 2026) – Great Britain’s Adele Nicoll has been at it a while, and has had many good finishes in her career. But until Wednesday she’d never sat atop a IBSF international podium as a pilot.

But in Igls Europe Cup action she outdrove a solid field of athletes on her way to her first career gold medal.

Germany’s Charlotte Candrix, the current Europe Cup point leader, slid to the lead over Jamaica’s Mica Moore early in the first heat. But Nicoll, the last slider off in the heat, put down a strong drive that edged out Candrix by .08 to take the lead.

In the second heat, Denmark’s Maja Voigt threw down a strong slide of her own to take the lead from German standout Leona Klein, then held that lead as Lea Haslwanter had a tough run below Kreisel and fell out of the medal hunt.

Poland’s Linda Weiszewski took over at the top of the leaderboard from fourth place. Her second effort was .05 quicker than her first, and enough to keep her ahead of both Moore and Candrix with just Nicoll still to go.

As she had in the first heat, Nicoll stood atop the track outside of Innsbruck alone, the final slider off. Her second push was a hundredth quicker than her first, and as she had in the first heat out-slid everyone at every split along the way from there. Her second drive was just .03 slower than her first, and more than enough to take gold from Weiszewski for her first gold medal.

Weiszewski matched a career-best finish with silver, and Candrix took bronze for her fifth medal in six races.

Voigt, Moore, and Klein rounded out the top six.

USA’s Lauren Brzozowski finished tenth, one spot ahead of Canada’s Erica Voss.

Simona de Silvestro finished 14th in her continued push toward a home Olympics.

With two races to go in the Europe Cup monobob season, Charlotte Candrix leads teammate Leona Klein by 14 points. Lauren Brzozowski is back in third, 14 points ahead of Simona de Silvestro in fourth, with Swiss pilot Selina Isler in fifth after missing the race weekend in Winterberg.
