Loch Takes Season Title with Altenberg Victory

From Altenberg, GER

(March 8, 2026) – At the end of racing in St. Moritz it looked like there may be a battle for the season championship coming down to Altenberg.

That didn’t happen, as Jonas Müller in second and Max Langenhan in third both sat out the race in Altenberg. But World Cup point leader Felix Loch still put on a clinic in the season finale and slid to both a track record and gold medal to take his eighth Crystal Globe.

Loch slid to the lead by over two tenths of a second ahead of Italy’s Dominik Fischnaller, with David Gleischer third, just a hundredth off of Fischnaller’s first downtime.

The second heat saw an outstanding slide by Nico Gleirscher to move up the rankings from seventh to what would eventually be fourth place. After brother David grabbed Nico’s spot in the leader’s box, Fischnaller put down another outstanding slide to take the lead to score his best finish of the season with no worse than silver.

But Loch was undeterred. Despite a slower start, the German champ put down the first ever slide under 53 seconds in Altenberg to lower his track record and take his fifth gold medal of the season.

The gold was also Loch’s 57th of his illustrious career, matching Armin Zöggeler for the most all time.

“This is crazy today! I was at the start and I knew Dominik has just slid a 53.12, and I wanted to slide a 52,” Loch said of his effort. “When I crossed the line I saw the 52 and it was so great! It’s a perfect weekend, perfect season, the overall title…it’s so great and I’m so happy today!”

Silver for Fischnaller and bronze for David Gleirscher were season bests for both men.

Nico Gleirscher and Wolfgang Kindl were fourth and fifth, while David Nößler slid to a season-best sixth.

In the overall standings, Loch took his eighth Crystal Globe as the season champion, ahead of Jonas Müller and Max Langenhan. Nico Gleirscher and Wolfgang Kindl rounded out the top five.
