(March 8, 2026) – Austria’s 2025/2026 World Cup season in the team relay competition concluded with yet another outstanding finish, as the nation slid to its second gold of the season, and with it the World Cup title.
The race kicked off with Romania putting down a set of clean runs, but then saw Italy conclude its strong but abbreviated season with four runs capped by Dominik Fischnaller and the team of Andrea Vötter and Marion Oberhofer putting down quick and clean runs to take the lead handily from the Romanians.
From there, Ukraine and Poland both struggled to match the Italians’ pace, as Italy continued to lead with just Latvia, Germany, and Austria still to go.
Latvia kicked off with Kendija Aparjode sliding to the quickest downtime of any of the women’s singles athletes, followed by a great run by Martins Bots and Roberts Plume. Trouble later in the run saw the Latvians fall behind the Italians and they sat second with two to go.
Up next were the usually reliable German squad. However Merle Fräbel missed the pad at the end of her run leading to Germany’s second DNF or DSQ of the season in the discipline.
That left Austria. Lisa Schulte’s run was clean enough, Thomas Steu and Wolfgang Kindl had an outstanding run, and from there David Gleirscher and the team of Selina Egle and Lara Kipp were nearly flawless as the team slid to a .218 second victory over the Italians, with Latvia third.
The win was the second for Austria, whose other finishes on the season were all second place ones as they took the season Crystal Globe ahead of Latvia, with Germany a distant third.
