From Sigulda, LAT
(January 22, 2026) – After a disappointing couple of races for Great Britain’s Corie Mapp, the three-time World Cup champion and reigning world champion returned to form with a close win in Sigulda.
Mapp trailed Austria’s Hermann Ellmauer by just three hundredths of a second after the first heat, with USA’s Robert Balk once again lingering around the podium in third.
As he’d done all season, Balk set another quick time in the second heat to take the lead, this time from Jonas Frei, who’d set the quick downtime of the heat a few moments before. Mapp was next, and while he was out-slid in the heat by Balk, he had enough in his first heat’s effort to hold the lead by eight hundredths with just Ellmauer to go.
The Austrian’s second effort wasn’t quite as clean as his first, and he bled time throughout the entirety of his run and eventually crossed the finish line in third place, two hundredths behind Balk and a tenth out of gold, giving Mapp his first victory of the season.
Balk took silver, and Ellmauer bronze.
Jonas Frei, Christopher Stewart and Flavio Menardi rounded out the top six.
Guillermo Castillo was seventh, just ahead of Austin Parker in eighth, with Tyler Jeffries in tenth. Doc Jacobs was 11th and Gabi Cha 13th to round out the American effort.
