2013/2014 FIBT World Cup – St. Moritz – Women’s Skeleton

From St. Moritz, Switzerland

Once again, the race in women’s skeleton came down to American Noelle Pikus-Pace and Brit Lizzy Yarnold.  Pikus-Pace led after one heat, but Yarnold set a blistering second heat pace, and three-quarters of the way down of Pikus-Pace’s run it looked like Yarnold might take gold.  Pikus-Pace had an amazing bottom part of her run to pass Yarnold and take gold in St. Moritz.  Yarnold would take silver, she has yet to finish off the podium.

World Champion Shelley Rudman had a solid set of runs for a bronze medal, just .04 out of a silver behind teammate Yarnold.  Austrian Janine Flock continued her career year in fourth, while Mellisa Hollingsworth finished fifth for Canada.

American Katie Uhlaender had the best race of her season as she overcomes some post-concussion injuries leading into Sochi.  Uhlaender had two solid runs for a sixth place finish.

Canadian Robynne Thompson had a solid set of runs, finishing ninth.  Teammate Sarah Reid had a hard hit after Horseshoe and fell from seventh to 19th.  The third British slider, Rose McGrandle, had a tough first run down the St. Moritz track, she hit the roof in Horseshoe and never recovered, finishing 23rd.
