2016 IBSF World Championships – Men’s Skeleton – Runs 1 & 2

From Igls, AUT

Martins Dukurs will go into the second day of racing in Igls with a massive advantage over the field. The Latvian broke the track record in the first run, and while his second run was .36 slower than his first, it was still over a tenth ahead of anyone else in the race.

Behind Dukurs there’s a tight battle for silver. Russian Olympic champion Alexander Tretiakov is known for his huge starts, and those are what have kept him slightly ahead of Sungbin Yun of Korea. Tretiakov’s starts were over a tenth faster than anyone else in the race, but was was all over the place down the track, bringing him back to Yun. Tretiakov and Yun sit second and third, respectively.

German Axel Jungk sits fourth, just about three tenths in either direction between Yun and Tomass Dukurs, who moved up from sixth to fifth in his second run. Nikita Tregybov sits in sixth.

The second heat saw some significant moving by the Americans. Nathan Crumpton moved from 11th to 8th to lead the way for the United States. Matt Antoine sits 11th, while Kyle Brown moved from 17th to 13th.

It was a relatively tough day for the Canadians, with Dave Greszczyszyn falling from 12th to 16th in his first two runs. He leads the way, ahead of Barrett Martineau, who is 19th going into the second day of racing. Evan Neufeldt sits 26th.

Dom Parsons is right in the middle of a tight pack of sliders going into the second day of sliding, currently sitting tenth for Great Britain. Teammate David Swift moved up from 23rd to 18th after two big pushes and one very clean run.

Rhys Thornbury sits 23rd for New Zealand.
