2016 IBSF World Championships – Women’s Skeleton – Runs 1 & 2

From Igls, AUT

The track in Igls is known to occasionally deteriorate over the course of a race, and in the second heat of the women’s race, it did just that.

Going into the second run, German Sophia Griebel sat 12th, just behind Katie Uhlaender of the United States. A flawless run by Griebel, combined with a slower track for the women after her, moved griebel all the way up to third, behind just teammate Tina Hermann and Janine Flock. Flock, on home ice, sits just .16 behind the German leader going into the second day of sliding.

Annie O’Shea of the United States came into the second run in third, dropping back to fourth by just only .01. Elena Nikitina and Marina Gilardoni both moved up significantly, with Nikitina from tenth to fifth and Gilardoni from 14th to sixth.

The 2012 World Champion Katie Uhlaender goes into the second day of sliding in 12th, a few spots ahead of teammate Kendall Wesenberg, who is 16th. Canadians Elisabeth Vathje will go into the third run in eighth and 15th respectively.

British slider Laura Deas finished the first day of sliding in 11th, with teammate Donna Creighton 17th. Australian Jackie Narracott finished the first day in 20th with Katie Tannenbaum of the Virgin Islands 25th.
