2016/2017 FIL Natural Track World Cup – Men’s Luge – Race 1

From Kühtai, AUT

The first race of the FIL natural track season was, much like last season, the parallel race.

Racing was close throughout the grid, but no major upsets were to be found in the early rounds of the 26 man field.

Defending World Cup champion (and 2015 parallel race winner) Patrick Pigneter cruised through the field to take gold again in Austria. He defeated Gregori Bukin of Russia, who made his way into the final after a mild upset over Italian Alex Gruber.

In the bronze medal race, Gruber was edged out by defending European Champion Thomas Kammerlander of Austria.
