Doubles Sprint World Cup

Toni Eggert & Sascha Benecken of Germany won the doubles sprint race ahead of the Latvian duo of Oskars Gudramovics & Peteris Kalninis.

The Latvians never appeared to have a gold medal run, but found speed at the bottom to move up to silver, just ahead of the German team of Tobias Wendl & Tobias Arlt. One small mistake bumped the German bronze medalists back from second to third, but gave Germany two teams on the Sprint podium.

Americans Matt Mortensen & Jayson Terdiman equaled their World Cup finish with a sixth place run.

Women’s Sprint World Cup

Tatyana Ivanova won by what could be considered, in Sprint World Cup terms anyway, a huge margin over Natalie Geisenberger.

Ivanova’s run came just before the final two German women, Geisenberger and Tatjana Hüfner, but neither could find the speed needed to unseat the Russian, with Ivanova winning her first gold medal of the season.

Ivanova’s teammate, Victoria Demchenko, finished third, just .003 ahead of American Emily Sweeney. Birgit Platzer and Hüfner rounded out the top six.

Summer Britcher and Erin Hamlin finished just out of the top six in seventh and eighth to round out the American effort, while Kimberley McRae and Alex Gough finished 11th and 13th for Canada.

Men’s Sprint World Cup

Much like in their World Cup race, the Russians went one-two, though with the order flipped around in the Sprint World Cup race.

World Cup silver medalist Roman Repilov took gold in the Sprint World Cup, just ahead of his teammate Semen Pavlichenko. Repilov’s start speed was a little bit slower, but he had a nearly flawless run on his way to a gold medal.

Wolfgang Kindl once again finished with a bronze medal, and once again kept Felix Loch from getting a medal in Sigulda. Loch finished fourth in both the World Cup and Sprint World Cup events.

American Chris Mazdzer came back from a rough second run in World Cup action to finish fifth in the Sprint World Cup event, just ahead of Russian Stepan Fedorov.

Tucker West finished tenth for the United States.
