From Calgary, CAN
(Nov. 13, 2017) Anna Fernstädt once again found gold in Calgary, and once again came from behind to do so.
The German came into her second heat in fifth place, behind Canada’s Madison Charney and Lanette Prediger, as well as Great Britain’s Kimberley Murray and Madelaine Smith. Her second run was the fastest of the race, moving her to the top of the leaderboard with only four sliders to go.
Nobody in the field could catch Fernstädt, with Charney’s second run .4 off the German’s pace to drop her to second overall. Murray finished with a bronze medal, moving closer to Charney but unable to unseat her.
The win is the third in four races for Fernstädt.
Prediger finished fourth, Smith fifth, and Jaclyn Laberge helped put all three Canadian women in the top six with a sixth place showing.
Annie O’Shea finished seventh as the only American in the top ten. Megan Henry finished 12th, while Gracie Clapp-Taylor finished 16th to round out the United States’ effort.
